Telecommunications Associations
Asociación Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (ANATEL) anatel.org.mx
The National Telecommunications Association of Mexico, representing the Mexican telecom carriers. Established in 2002, ANATEL is an industry group that includes mobile network operators and other telecom service providers in Mexico. It specializes in regulatory advocacy, working with the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) and government on issues like spectrum allocation, infrastructure sharing, and reducing the digital divide. ANATEL’s goal is to foster a competitive ICT landscape in Mexico and encourage investment to improve connectivity nationwide.
Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) canadatelecoms.ca
The industry association for Canada’s wireless telecommunications sector. CWTA represents wireless carriers (mobile network operators), as well as device manufacturers and network equipment suppliers in Canada. It advocates for policies that facilitate wireless infrastructure expansion, innovation (e.g. 5G rollout), and a fair regulatory environment. CWTA also leads consumer education programs (such as cell phone recycling) and reports on industry trends. Its members provide the vast majority of Canada’s mobile wireless services, connecting over 30 million subscriptions. The association works closely with federal agencies on spectrum and telecom policy to ensure Canadians have access to world-class mobile networks.
Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) ctia.org
A prominent U.S. trade association for the wireless communications industry. CTIA’s members include all major U.S. mobile carriers, many equipment manufacturers, and app and content companies. It advocates on issues such as spectrum allocation, 5G deployment, telecom infrastructure modernization, and mobile broadband adoption. CTIA also administers industry programs like certification of wireless devices and public safety (e.g. Wireless Emergency Alerts). Given that the U.S. wireless industry serves over 400 million device connections, CTIA often emphasizes the sector’s economic impact (supporting 4.5 million jobs) and invests in initiatives to combat robocalls and improve network security.
