Metals & Mining Associations
American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) steel.org
AISI is the premier trade association for the North American steel industry. It represents integrated and electric-arc furnace steelmakers accounting for the majority of U.S. and Canadian steel production, as well as steel industry suppliers and affiliated organizations. AISI’s mission is to advocate for policies that support a strong and sustainable steel industry - including fair trade, robust infrastructure investment, and environmental stewardship. The institute also coordinates industry-wide research and standards development (like steel material specifications) and promotes steel’s benefits in automotive, construction, and energy applications.
Aluminum Association aluminum.org
The Aluminum Association is the leading U.S. industry association for aluminum producers, fabricators, and recyclers. Its member companies produce a significant portion of North America’s primary aluminum and aluminum products (sheet, extrusions, castings, etc.). The association promotes aluminum’s use through standards setting, market research, and technical programs while advocating on issues such as trade enforcement, energy efficiency, and recycling policy. It leads sustainability initiatives, highlighting that nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today due to recycling.
Mining Association of Canada (MAC) mining.ca
MAC is the national organization for Canada’s mining industry, representing companies engaged in mineral exploration, mining, smelting, and refining across the country. Members include producers of gold, iron ore, copper, nickel, potash, diamond, and other minerals, as well as oil sands. MAC works closely with governments on regulatory and environmental policies, land access, and indigenous partnerships to ensure mining is developed responsibly and competitively. It created the internationally renowned Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) program that improves environmental and social practices at mine sites. MAC also educates the public on mining’s economic contributions (Canada is a top-five global producer of many minerals) and advocates for infrastructure and innovation to support the sector’s growth.
National Mining Association (NMA) nma.org
NMA is the voice of the U.S. mining industry in Washington, representing metal ore and coal producers, industrial mineral companies, and equipment manufacturers. NMA advocates for public policies that facilitate the safe and sustainable development of America’s mineral and coal resources. Its priorities include streamlined permitting for mines, improvements in mine safety (through initiatives like CORESafety®), and promotion of coal and mineral supply chains vital to manufacturing and defense. NMA also addresses issues like environmental regulation, land access, and export opportunities for U.S. mined commodities. The association highlights that mining supports over a million U.S. jobs and supplies the raw materials (from copper and rare earths to coal) that are crucial for energy production, infrastructure, and advanced technologies.
Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) pdac.ca
PDAC is a Canadian association with a global reach, representing over 7,000 members in the mineral exploration and development industry. PDAC is best known for hosting the world’s largest annual mining conference in Toronto, but year-round it advocates for a responsible, successful mineral exploration sector. It engages with governments on geoscience funding, indigenous consultation frameworks, and the tax and regulatory regimes that affect exploration (such as Canada’s flow-through shares incentive). PDAC also develops guidance on environmental practices and health & safety in exploration. The association’s aim is to ensure Canada remains a leading location for mineral investment and that new mineral discoveries can be made to sustain the mining industry’s future.
Camara Minera de México (CAMIMEX) camimex.org.mx
CAMIMEX (Mexico’s Mining Chamber) is the national chamber representing the mining and metallurgical industry of Mexico. Its membership includes the country’s principal mining companies producing gold, silver, copper, zinc, iro, and other metals, as well as coal and industrial minerals. CAMIMEX coordinates industry positions on legislative and regulatory issues, working with Mexico’s government to promote mining investment, streamline permitting, and improve security and labor conditions at mine sites. The chamber also emphasizes social responsibility and community development in mining regions. Mexico is among the world’s top producers of silver, fluorite, bismuth and other minerals, and CAMIMEX plays a key role in showcasing the industry’s contributions to national development and ensuring its long-term viability.
Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) canadiansteel.ca
CSPA is the voice of Canada’s primary steel and pipe producers. Its members produce steel in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec, including plate, structural steel, auto steel, and energy tubular products. CSPA advocates on issues such as fair trade (combating steel dumping and subsidies abroad), competitive electricity and carbon policies, and the use of Canada’s clean steel (which is produced with a lower carbon footprint than the global average). The association collaborates with the Canadian and provincial governments on strategies to decarbonize steel production (for example, through electric arc furnaces and carbon capture) and to ensure the sector’s competitiveness. It also highlights the role of Canadian steel in infrastructure and manufacturing supply chains.
